I went to the #MillionHoodieMarch last night and tried to notice how people felt and what kinds of things they said. Here’re some of the thoughts I heard:
"There are people richer than presidents"
"It’s about community."
"Columbus did not discover America, he encountered it."
"I look suspicious because I’m Black, because I’m Latino. They will kill me because I’m Black, because I’m Latino."
"Do not kill my son too. Do not kill my people. Do not kill my cousin. Do not kill my brother."
When a crew of White anarchists were chanting some variation on “Fuck The Police”, a Black gentlemen asked them to “keep it PG” out of respect for the families present. As the group rallied with indignance , this man just said “you can talk circles around me but this is not your party.”
and I felt like, Hell Yeah.
